Hello! I am Pita, dubbed so by a friend during her attempts to classify her friends with food. So I became her Persian Pita, which is a much better nickname than the previous ones she’d decided on. (She gets to be my Czech Biscuit, which I think is quite cute, but that’s somewhat irrelevant).
I’m a junior at a four-year university, majoring in English and minoring in History and Asian-American Studies. As a freshman I couldn’t stand college so I declared that if I still hated college by the end of sophomore year I would drop out and join culinary school. The problem with that goal is that by the end of sophomore year, I was already so far in my college career that I figured I may as well continue on.
But the dream of culinary school still lurks in my brain and this blog is my attempt to mollify my disappointment somewhat. I’ve toyed with the idea of having a food blog for over a year now, but even though the motivation was there, I felt the skills were not. Take pictures of food? I don’t even understand the dial on my camera. Post explanatory recipes? My cooking is made up of this-and-that thrown in at arbitrary intervals and varied amounts (I blame my mother).
The nice part about making a goal is that if it’s something you’re truly passionate about, you’ll work for it no matter what. I may not know the first thing about photography and measuring may slip my mind from time-to-time (or all the time) but I am passionate about food! From my experience, when you love something you make it work.
So I’m going to make this work, my lovely Sweet Potatoes. And I welcome all comments on my photography and recipes. If you can’t understand it, then I need to fix it!
That said, on with the food!

Hello Pita, This is my first visit to any blog site, but I've been to quite a few food recipe web-sites and yours is fantastic. I felt like I was in your kitchen watching you cook, with out getting in your way. The soup looks fantastic. May I suggest a soup night with your friends stopping by to rave about your culinary skills. Happy Birthday Pita. Love, Tia Mia Marla (:
wow nice blog, jirrafa!
